About ChristianShortFilms.com
This project started when John Vines decided to produce a film collection of films that were shown at the 2007 SAICFF event. John pursued this project because Vision Forum announced that they would not be producing a collection from the SAICFF. He shared this vision with the other members of the Dallas Christian Filmmakers and they agreed with the idea and offered their support.
This project was undertaken to try and help the filmmaker community and those who want wholesome family principle-driven entertainment that educates according to Biblical standards and ideals. For those filmmakers that participate in the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival -- that is sponsored by Vision Forum Ministries -- it can be difficult to distribute their films to the audience that is most interested. The primary reason for this is because it costs a certain amount of money to produce and distribute a DVD no-matter how much content in on the DVD. In the case of short films it is difficult to recover the cost of production and distribution because people aren't willing to pay very much for a DVD with one short film on it.
What is needed is a way to sell a collection of all the films AND fairly compensate the filmmakers for their contribution. This goal may be achieved with the “Recollection 2007 – A collection of Films shown at the 2007 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival”. The difference here is that the individual filmmakers are entering into a non-exclusive agreement that guarantees a percentage royalty to be payed to the filmmaker from the sale of the Film collection. The royalty is calculated based on the length of the film and the final rank that the film achieved in the SAICFF competition. This is a very fare arrangement because higher ranked films will receive more and longer films will receive more.
Those people who wish to purchase Christian short films can now do so in an economical way. Since the films are packaged together the viewing audience can even be exposed to films and filmmakers who they might have otherwise never considered.
We believe that this is an excellent solution and we are hopeful that it will help filmmakers to better support themselves in the craft that they feel called to participate in -- filmmaking.
